Convert WebP to PNG with ConvertFern
- Open WebP to PNG.
- Select one or more .webp files.
- Choose Convert files and wait for the queue to finish.
- Download individual PNGs or a ZIP of the batch. Inspect transparent edges and any image that was animated.
Convert WebP to JPG in an editor
- Open the original WebP in an editor that supports both WebP input and JPEG export. On a Mac, try Preview; on Windows, try your installed version of Paint. Support varies by version.
- If the image is transparent, place it on the background colour you want. JPEG cannot retain transparent pixels.
- Choose Export or Save as and select JPEG. In Preview, use File → Export and the Format menu.
- Choose quality and a new filename. Open the saved JPG to confirm the result. If the app cannot open WebP, use a compatible editor or update it.
When a two-step route makes sense
If an older editor accepts PNG but not WebP, first use WebP → PNG, then open that PNG in the editor and export JPEG. PNG is a lossless intermediate, but the final JPEG encoding is still lossy. Use the direct editor route when available to save a step.
Fix common problems
Black or white background: a JPEG export must flatten transparency. Choose the background deliberately rather than relying on the editor’s default.
Wrong file type after saving: use the actual format dropdown, not a filename change.
Animation lost: neither this still-PNG workflow nor a JPG export preserves motion. Keep the original WebP for animation.
